Aliness Fish Omega-3 Forte is a source of natural omega-3 fatty acids in an affordable soft capsule form. The product's main ingredient is high-quality fish oil, which has a high concentration of natural omega-3 fatty acids - EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid).
Each capsule of Fish Omega-3 Forte provides as much as 300 mg of essential omega-3 acids, including 180 mg of EPA and 120 mg of DHA.
What are omega-3 acids?
Omega-3 fatty acids is the common name for a group of compounds belonging to the group of essential unsaturated fatty acids (EFAs).
Omega-3 fatty acids are...
NECESSARY - because in contrast to saturated fatty acids, the body is not able to produce them on its own, and they are needed at many levels of its functioning. Therefore, they must be provided in adequate amounts in food.
NON-SATURATED - which means that in the molecules of these acids, there is at least one double bond between the carbon atoms in the carbon chain. The suffix '3' means that the last such double bond is located at the third carbon atom from the end of the chain.
OMEGA-3 or OMEGA-6?
Providing both omega-3 and omega-6 acids is very important for proper functioning of the body. However it is important to maintain their proper ratio in the diet. The optimal ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 is 1:4.
In the diet of western societies (European or American) this balance is significantly shifted towards excessive consumption of omega 6 acids. This is because the main part of the diet consists of products of animal origin, in which saturated fatty acids and omega-6 acids predominate.
The consequence of such a dietary style is disruption of the ratio of omega-3 to omega-6, which is 1:15, or even 1:20. The consequence of prolonged maintenance of such a state is the appearance of pro-inflammatory compounds in the body, formed from excessive amounts of omega-6 acids.
So the point is not to eliminate either of the two fatty acids from the diet, but to eat a balanced diet, providing both omega-3 and omega-6 acids in a proportion as close to optimal as possible. Due to eating habits ingrained in our culture, it is much harder to maintain an adequate supply of omega-3 fatty acids than omega-6, which is why in many cases supplementation with omega-3 fatty acids is advisable.
Omega-3 fatty acids (DHA and EPA) have a beneficial effect on health and their supplementation is recommended for people at all stages of life:
- DHA and EPA contribute to the proper functioning of the heart*
- DHA helps to maintain normal vision*.
- DHA contributes to maintaining normal brain function
*beneficial effects occur with a daily intake of 250 mg EPA and DHA
Triglycerides vs Esters
Omega fatty acids can be supplied to the body in different chemical forms - e.g. in their free form, in the form of triglycerides or esters. The fatty acids that are naturally found in food are overwhelmingly present in the form of triglycerides, being part of fats, and to a small extent are present as free fatty acids. The triglyceride form is therefore the natural form of omega fatty acids.
On the market one can also find dietary supplements and medicinal products based on omega acids in the form of ethyl esters (esterified form). It is an artificial form of omega fatty acids, obtained on the basis of chemical synthesis, in which natural triglycerides are broken down to free fatty acids, in order to then transform them through a chemical process of esterification into ethyl esters of appropriate fatty acids. Esterification of fatty acids is a solution commonly used in pharmacy, mainly due to the possibility of obtaining raw materials with strictly desired and repeatable parameters, and consequently easier application in complicated technological processes as well as easier storage.
However, in everyday supplementation it is more beneficial to use the form of omega fatty acids in the form of triglycerides, which is a natural component occurring in the same form in food, and therefore best recognized and tolerated by the body.
Our omega fatty acids are found only in their natural triglyceride form and are free from synthetically esterified forms. The oil is encapsulated in a protective atmosphere which makes the capsules easy to store at room temperature.
