Elastin is a key extracellular matrix (ECM) protein which is abundant in ligaments, blood vessels and the dermis where it reinforces the network formed by collagen fibres. Elastin molecules wrap around collagen, giving the structure it creates elasticity, so the skin remains firm and supple. The third important structural element in the skin is hyaluronic acid, which has the ability to bind water molecules.

The abundance of all 3 components in the skin ensures that it retains its hydration, elasticity and strength.

Unfortunately, as we age, the body synthesises less and less elastin, collagen and hyaluronic acid. In addition, these components in the skin are degraded by adverse factors such as UV radiation and free radicals. This leads to sagging and the formation of wrinkles.

Traditional elastin vs Elastin F
Traditionally, elastin is derived from bovine ligament, which can raise concerns about bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE). This concern has led researchers to search for a safe, alternative source of elastin peptide for nutraceutical and cosmetic purposes.

ELASTIN F. The new generation elastin.
Elastin F is the highest quality, natural elastin peptide, extracted from Bonito tuna. Elastin F is derived from the arterial pad (Bulbus arteriosus) of the fish, which is rich in elastin fibres.

Using enzymatic biotransformation technology during the isolation and hydrolysis process, the resulting elastin F peptides have an extremely low molecular weight (less than 1000 Da) and are resistant to acidic environments. This clearly distinguishes them from other types of elastin, which are commonly extracted from fish skin and bovine ligaments and are characterised by much higher molecular weights and poorer bioavailability.

Thanks to their low molecular weight and the fact that the integrity of the cross-linked amino acids (desmosine and isodesmosine) is maintained even at low pH, elastin F peptides are well water-soluble and can therefore reach the skin unchanged. This makes them easily absorbed and incorporated directly into skin structures.
