Coenzyme Q10 in combination with Resveratrol and Superoxide Dysmutase.
CoQ10 is a vitamin-like substance produced in all cells of our body.
Our body only synthesises (produces) the non-reduced form of Q10, i.e. Ubiquinone Ubiquinol is not synthesised by the body.
CoQ10 is a lipid-soluble molecule.
Ubiquinone is yellow in colour and Ubiquinol is milky white.
Ubiquinol is a very unstable form. When swallowed and released from the capsule, it is momentarily oxidised to ubiquinone. It does not have time to reach the small intestine where it is absorbed. People who say that certain cells need the reduced form are simply ridiculous. Oxidation is immediate. The body itself converts one form into the other and vice versa depending on its needs.
Ubiquinone is used by the body for energy production of ATP (adenosine triphosphate). Ubiquinol the body uses for antioxidant purposes.
These are not substitutable compounds. If they were, the body would not use the mechanism of continuous metabolism.
The International Coenzyme Q10 Association ICQA
http://icqaproject.org/ only uses the non-reduced form, Ubiquinone, for research purposes.
The antioxidant nature of Ubiquinol derives from its function as an energy carrier. As an energy carrier, the CoQ10 molecule constantly goes through a cycle of reduction and oxidation. When attaching electrons, it undergoes reduction. When donating electrons, it undergoes oxidation. In its reduced form, the CoQ10 molecule holds electrons rather loosely, so this CoQ10 molecule will quite easily give up one or both electrons and therefore act as an antioxidant.
CoQ10 inhibits lipid peroxidation (oxidation) by preventing the production of lipid peroxyl radicals (LOO). It protects not only lipids but also proteins from oxidation. CoQ10 effectively regenerates vitamin E from the α-tocopheryl radical.
Unlike other antioxidants, this compound inhibits both the initiation and propagation of lipid and protein oxidation. It also regenerates other antioxidants such as vitamin E. Circulating CoQ10 in LDL prevents LDL oxidation, which may be beneficial in cardiovascular disease.
Our supplement additionally contains resveratrol and superoxide dismutase - a great antioxidant complex.
