AFP Peptizyde® (Advanced Formula Protease) is a combination of three different enzymes that break down food proteins. These enzymes are isolated and purified from fungal sources.

The combination of these specific enzymes allows for much more efficient ways to quickly and accurately break proteins down into smaller components.

The enzymes in AFP Peptizyde only work on food proteins - not carbohydrates, fats or other compounds. AFP Peptizyde will not interfere with medications or other supplements unless they are also proteins, which is very unlikely. AFP Peptizyde can be used in combination with other enzyme products.

• The enzyme dipeptidyl peptidase IV or DPP IV is able to break down and inactivate the dairy exorphin peptide casomorphin. However, for maximum protein breakdown, DPP IV is not useful alone and should be combined with other proteases with different and less stringent peptide bond specificities.
• For this reason, AFP Peptizyde contains two other proteases of fungal origin with high acid activity. These enzymes are present in AFP Peptizyde in high amounts to rapidly hydrolyze (break down) proteins while food is still in the stomach.
• The ability of AFP Peptizyde enzymes to withstand the low pH of the stomach and remain active in acidic conditions allows the breakdown of casein and gluten before entering the small intestine. Casein and gluten in the presence of pancreatic enzymes in the small intestine can produce exorphin peptides that can be easily absorbed from the intestine (these peptides are not absorbed from the stomach).
• AFP Peptizyde supplements the "normal" breakdown of casein, gluten and other dietary proteins so that exorphin peptides are not produced because the specific cleavage pattern for producing these peptides is altered.
• AFP Peptizyde also contains only those enzymes that are needed to hydrolyze proteins. No other enzymes added. This allows you to adjust enzyme supplementation to specific needs.

Another advantage of this approach is the lower potential for intolerance reactions due to additional and possibly unnecessary enzyme proteins. Also, by using only three enzyme blends in AFP Peptizyde, larger amounts of each enzyme can be added per capsule. This ensures that more food protein breakdown can occur in the short time that food is in the stomach.

AFP Peptizyde also differs from products of other companies in that it has allowed many people to safely modify or even give up a gluten-free and casein-free diet (GFCF). This has allowed families to have a greater choice of available foods, better nutrition - by reincorporating important sources of protein back into their diets - and much less stress and worry from fear of food reactions.

Appetite may increase as well as show more interest in other types of food. AFP Peptizyde may allow dairy and wheat products to be reintroduced into the diet without the occurrence of abnormal behaviors. The benefits of AFP Peptizyde vary from person to person and may be affected by other supplements and diet. Other supplements, especially vitamins and minerals, can be reduced in amount or frequency of dosing as more nutrients are obtained from a diet containing enzymes. AFP Peptizyde is NOT intended to bring gluten back into the diet of people with celiac disease.

Using AFP Peptizyde as an alternative to the GFCF diet
The procedure recommended by most who have successfully ditched the GFCF (gluten free, casein free) diet using AFP Peptizyde is to use enzymes while maintaining the diet for at least 2 months. For known problem foods, use small portions of 1 or 2 AFP Peptizyde capsules initially. The goal is to provide more than enough AFP Peptizyde to counter the effects of casein/gluten food intolerance.

If the challenge is successful, an increase in food intake may be attempted, keeping in mind that more AFP Peptizyde may be required to counteract the increased size of the food challenge. For occasional use, up to 4 capsules can be given for offenses, more than that is unlikely to provide any additional benefit.†
