How to take care of your heart

Heart disease is the most common cause of death in the world! Many people suffer from heart problems, which is why we asked an expert to explain how to take good care of the most important muscle in our body. The most common heart diseases are hypertension, coronary heart disease and arrhythmia - which increase the risk of heart attacks. Among the factors that increase the risk of heart disease are, of course, bad habits: smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, lack of physical activity, unhealthy diet and inadequate stress management.

In order to quickly detect emerging disorders in the cardiovascular system, remember to always check your cholesterol levels when carrying out regular preventive examinations. It is also important to make conscious choices every day that have a positive impact on your heart function. How do you do this?

Stick to these few rules:

  • quit smoking and limit your alcohol intake,

  • get enough physical activity (the basis is a standard of steps, then you can introduce cardio training such as jogging),

  • use the sauna - the high temperature relaxes the blood vessels and facilitates the flow of blood, but remember that not everyone should use the sauna - among the contraindications you may find, are for example blood coagulation disorders, post-heart attack conditions and coronary heart disease - also remember to consult the desire to use the sauna with your doctor!

  • take care of your diet - the Mediterranean diet is the most suitable, but you can also simply try to observe the following rules:

(a) avoid processed food,

b) limit fried products, and if you do want to eat something from the frying pan, make sure that the process is hygienic (the right oil, the right temperature, avoid burnt food),

c) make sure you are getting the right calorie intake - maintaining a normal body weight is key for your heart, and remember to get enough protein too,

d) ensure adequate levels of hydration.
