There are two dominant groups of bacteria in the human gut microbiome: Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes. The aforementioned groups should occur in an equal quantitative proportion - such a balance accompanies people with a slim figure [1,2]. Studies have shown that in over 90% of cases, the overgrowth of Firmicutes bacteria accompanies overweight and obese people [3]. Some strains of bacteria from the Firmicutes group affect the increase in caloric storage in the body, and this is more than the human needs.
