Cold-pressed evening primrose oil is characterised by a high content of unsaturated fats, including polyunsaturated fats, which include omega-6 fatty acids. The fatty acid from the omega-6 family is linoleic acid (LA), and gammalinolenic acid (GLA). Linoleic acid helps to maintain normal blood cholesterol levels. A beneficial effect occurs when 10 g of LA is consumed daily. Replacing saturated fats in the diet with unsaturated fats helps to maintain normal blood cholesterol levels [mono- and polyunsaturated fatty acids are unsaturated fats].
