Aliness Vegan Omega-3 is a source of vegan and 100% natural omega-3 fatty acids in an affordable soft capsule formulation containing the patented DHA Origins® algae oil formula.
Each
Vegan Omega-3 capsule provides 500mg of essential omega-3 acids, in the form of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).
Due to the use of tapioca capsules,
Aliness Vegan Omega-3 is free of animal-derived ingredients. Therefore, it is an ideal source of DHA also for vegetarians and vegans.
What are omega-3 fatty acids?
Omega-3 fatty acids is the common name for a group of compounds that belong to the group of essential unsaturated fatty acids (EFAs).
Omega-3 fatty acids are...
NECESSARY - because in contrast to saturated fatty acids, our body is not able to produce them on its own, and they are needed at many levels of its functioning. Therefore, they must be provided in adequate amounts in food.
NON-SATURATED - which means that in the molecules of these acids, there is at least one double bond between the carbon atoms in the carbon chain. The suffix '3' means that the last such double bond is located at the third carbon atom from the end of the chain.
OMEGA-3 or OMEGA-6?
Providing both omega-3 and omega-6 acids is very important for the proper functioning of the body. However it is important to maintain their proper ratio in the diet. The optimal ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 is 1:4.
In the diet of western societies (European or American) this balance is significantly shifted towards excessive consumption of omega 6 acids. This is because the main part of the diet consists of products of animal origin, in which saturated fatty acids and omega-6 acids predominate.
The consequence of such a dietary style is disruption of the ratio of omega-3 to omega-6, which is 1:15, or even 1:20. The consequence of prolonged maintenance of such a state is the appearance in the body of pro-inflammatory compounds, formed from omega-6 acids.
So the point is not to eliminate either of the two fatty acids from the diet, but to eat a balanced diet, providing both omega-3 and omega-6 acids in a proportion as close to optimal as possible. Due to eating habits ingrained in our culture, it is much harder to maintain an adequate supply of omega-3 fatty acids than of omega-6, therefore, in many cases supplementation of omega-3 fatty acids is advisable.
DHA Origins® - unique among OMEGA-3 oils
DHA Origins® oil contained in our product comes from a reputable European producer specialising in algae cultivation and processing. It is obtained exclusively from sustainable crops, in which algae are multiplied in a closed cycle, without negative impact on the environment. The entire production process - from algae cultivation to extraction - takes place in Europe.
DHA Origins® oil is produced by extraction from specially selected strains of Schizochytrium sp. microalgae, naturally rich in DHA. The production process involves only physical extraction and purification. The oil is not subjected to any chemical treatment or processes, including recombination reactions of fatty acids, as it is the case with many other highly concentrated sources of DHA available on the market.
The high DHA concentration is exclusively due to the natural DHA content in the algae Schizochytrium sp.
Omega-3 fatty acids (DHA) from algae have the same health properties as omega-3 derived from fish and, like them, are an ideal form of supplementation for people at all stages of life, plus they are also
suitable for vegetarians and vegans:
- DHA helps to maintain normal triglyceride levels in the blood
- DHA helps to maintain normal vision*
- DHA contributes to maintaining normal brain function
Triglycerides vs Esters
Omega fatty acids can be supplied to the body in different chemical forms - e.g. in their free form, in the form of triglycerides or esters. The fatty acids that are naturally found in food are overwhelmingly present in the form of triglycerides, being part of fats, and to a small extent are present as free fatty acids. The triglyceride form is therefore the natural form of omega fatty acids.
On the market one can also find dietary supplements and medicinal products based on omega acids in the form of ethyl esters (esterified form). It is an artificial form of omega fatty acids, obtained on the basis of chemical synthesis, in which natural triglycerides are broken down to free fatty acids, in order to then transform them through a chemical process of esterification into ethyl esters of appropriate fatty acids. Esterification of fatty acids is a solution commonly used in pharmacy, mainly due to the possibility of obtaining raw materials with strictly desired and repeatable parameters, and consequently easier application in complicated technological processes as well as easier storage.
However, in everyday supplementation it is more beneficial to use the form of omega fatty acids in the form of triglycerides, which is a natural component occurring in the same form in food, and therefore best recognized and tolerated by the body.
Our omega fatty acids are found only in their natural triglyceride form and are free from synthetically esterified forms. The oil is encapsulated in a protective atmosphere which makes the capsules easy to store at room temperature.
