What is cholesterol? How does it affect the body? People struggle with such questions every day. We hear a lot about cholesterol-related diseases, including: with its excess in the body. Does each of us influence the amount of this chemical in the body? The answer is yes!  Is using a specific type of herbs in the diet an effective solution in this case? The answer is yes!

 

However, in order to present this issue in a fully comprehensive manner, i.e. what herbs should be included in our diet and how they affect the body, it is first necessary to explain what cholesterol actually is.

 

 

WHAT IS CHOLESTEROL?

 

Cholesterol is organic chemical compound, belonging to fats, which occurs in every animal cell membrane. His tasks include, among others: appropriate stabilization of these membranes, which also translates into the properties of animal cells. Currently, we can come across two concepts: “good cholesterol” - HDL and “bad cholesterol” LDL.

 

To the level cholesterol is influenced by many factors, in particular the amount of exercise, i.e. physical activity and its frequency, and dietary habits. > This is important because any type of lipid metabolism disorders (i.e. groups of chemical compounds to which cholesterol belongs) may result in the development of diseases such as e.g. atherosclerosis, coronary heart disease or even stroke. Therefore, it is worth taking care of the correct amount of cholesterol in the body.

 

 

HOW TO LOWER CHOLESTEROL? – HOME RECIPES

 

Home ways to lower cholesterol include herbal medicine, but there are no contraindications to home remedies include the regulation of the diet itself. Due to the fact that in most cases high cholesterol in the body is the result of improper nutrition, it is necessary to limit the consumption of or completely exclude from the diet products such as:

 

  • full fat milk and its products, i.e. cream, butter, yellow cheese,
  • white bread and all kinds of cakes,
  • red meat - beef and pork, fatty meats e.g. bacon and products such as lard,
  • junk so-called food fast food,
  • eggs – however, when it comes to cholesterol, limiting egg consumption applies to egg yolks, not egg whites.

 

 

WHAT LOWERS CHOLESTEROL?

 

As already mentioned, the condition for achieving the appropriate cholesterol level is exclusion of certain ingredients from the diet. However, it should be remembered that when you move away from certain products, it is necessary to enrich your diet with ="line-height:150%"> appropriate replacement, i.e. products that will provide us with all the necessary minerals and vitamins, and will also reduce the level of "bad cholesterol" in the body, increasing the level of "good cholesterol".

 

Food products that effectively lower cholesterol include is:

 

  • Wholegrain bread, bran, oat flakes, as well as fruits and vegetables, because they contain a large dose of dietary fiber, which reduces the absorption of cholesterol into the blood. blood, what's more, it improves intestinal function and helps maintain proper weight.
  • OILY SEA FISH, such as salmon, tuna or halibut, as well as vegetable oils and cod liver oils, because these products contain unsaturated acids fatty acids, especially omega-3 acid, which has a number of health-promoting properties.
  • NUTS which are a great substitute for snacks such as chips, due to the presence of unsaturated fatty acids in them.
  • LEAN MEAT e.g. poultry instead of red meat, but instead of frying it is recommended to stew or grill the meat.

Another way to regulation of cholesterolin the blood is broadly understood herbal medicine. It has been proven that natural preparations based on herbs, e.g. teas herbal as well as herbal products in the form of tablets effectively reduces cholesterol levels in the blood. The form of using herbs does not matter, because both individually or as a mixture, they bring the expected results.

 

Herbs and other cholesterol-lowering foods mentioned in particular:

  4. GINGER In addition to lowering cholesterol levels in the blood, ginger root or rhizome has a beneficial effect on the immune system, and also accelerates blood circulation.
  5. SMALL THIStlehas antioxidant properties, supports digestion and ensures appropriate levels of glucose and lipids in the blood, what's more, the seed husks significantly improve liver function. Moreover, when used regularly, milk thistle helps the body remove toxins and poisons and increases the secretion of bile acids, which improves food digestion and intestinal function.
  6. COMMON GARLICwhich, in addition to the content of water, carbohydrates, proteins and fiber, is also rich in compounds with anti-inflammatory and antibacterial as well as detoxifying properties that affect cholesterol levels.
  7. PLAIN LINEN which is composed of compounds with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties such as phenolic compounds, carotenoids, anthocyanins, flavonoids, and is also a rich source of vitamin E, vitamins C, as well as fibera. Moreover, flax is a good source of essential unsaturated fatty acids from the Omega-3 and Omega-6 families. Flax can also be taken in the form of ground flax, commonly called linseed.
  8. RED RICEthe extract made from it slows down cholesterol synthesis due to the "natural statin" present. – monacolin K. As a side note, it is worth noting that fermented red rice is one of the most important drugs traditionally used in Chinese medicine.
  9. NIGELLAincreases the amount of "good cholesterol" through its presence in seeds. vegetable fats, in particular essential unsaturated fatty acids from the Omega-3 and Omega-6 families, which have a beneficial effect on the level of cholesterol in the body.
  10. GRANNY SWALLOW - considering the large amounts of pectin, i.e. polysaccharides, limits the reabsorption of bile, which contains cholesterol. It has been shown that regular consumption of psyllium seed husks not only prevents excess bad cholesterol in human blood, but also increases the level of health-friendly HDL cholesterol, called "good cholesterol".
  11. CHICORY ROOTby combining it with other herbs, it helps reduce blood cholesterol levels, but more importantly, it supports digestion and liver function by accelerating the production of bile, which is a necessary element in the process of metabolizing fatty compounds.
  12. DANDELICE — its basic effect is "cholagogue", and infusions made from this plant have a positive effect on the amount of triglycerides and cholesterol in the blood.
  13. GREEN TEAThe ingredients it contains not only reduce the presence of LDL cholesterol in the blood, but also fight free radicals, thus protecting many organs, including the heart, which is why cholesterol tea is a good solution.


 

WHAT IS THE CORRECT AMOUNT OF CHOLESTEROL IN THE BLOOD?

 

Now that you know how to regulate cholesterol, we blood, it is worth knowing what amount is considered appropriate. It should be mentioned that, in addition to the adopted limits, the cholesterol level also depends on personal preferences, i.e. it must be considered individually, because what is an appropriate dose for one person may not be appropriate for another person. this is determined by, among others, current lifestyle.

 

It is therefore assumed that:

  • people who have been diagnosed with low or moderate risk of cardiovascular diseases, the LDL cholesterol level is below 115 mg%,
  • people classified as high risk, i.e. people suffering from hypertension, diabetes – LDL cholesterol is less than 100 mg%
  • among people classified as very high risk, including: people suffering from various cardiovascular diseases, people with complicated diabetes or advanced kidney failure - the LDL fraction level is below 70 mg%.
