Citrulline is an amino acid that is converted in the body to L-arginine during the urea cycle, along with another amino acid, L-ornithine. Supplementation with citrulline is a more effective way to increase arginine levels and increase the production of nitric oxide (NO) in the body than supplementation with arginine.

In the body, citrulline is converted into L-arginine in the kidneys, increasing the level of L-arginine in the blood plasma.
