Optimal Methylate Chewable from Seeking Health provides a lower dose of methylation support for those who are sensitive to the higher doses found in most methyl support supplements. We've included active forms of folic acid, vitamin B12, and nine other targeted nutrients to help support and optimize healthy methylation processes throughout the body.

Methylation is an extremely important biochemical reaction that occurs every second in every cell of your body. At the cellular level, methylation is the process of transferring the methyl group (CH3) to a molecule that activates the molecule so that it can be used by the body.

For example, attaching a methyl group to folate transforms it into an active form known as 5-MTHF (1-methylfolate), which is the dominant form of folic acid found in the body and the only form that can cross the blood-brain barrier. Similarly, the addition of a methyl group to homocysteine (a marker of inflammation and cardiovascular disease) transforms it back into methionine, a harmless amino acid. The addition and removal of methyl groups to and from DNA is responsible for turning genes on and off.

People with the MTHFR gene mutation (especially the C677T variety) can have a significant reduction in methylation (even if they take a lot of folic acid) and can benefit from supplementation with activated forms of folic acid, B12, and other methyl-supporting nutrients. * two copies of the MTHFR (homozygous) gene become even more important to provide methylation support for your body, however, taking high doses can lead to excessive ethylation. Typical symptoms of too much methylation support include headache, irritability, insomnia, runny nose, body pain and itchy skin.

The ingredients found in Optimal Methylate Chewable are designed to provide the following benefits and actions:

  • Riboflavin is the basic vitamin needed to support the MTHFR enzyme. Riboflavin also helps in the recycling of glutathione (the main antioxidant in the body) and supports the metabolism of serotonin, epinephrine, noradrenaline and histamine
  • Niacin helps support histamine metabolism while providing a calming effect
  • Vitamin B6 is used to convert harmful homocysteine into beneficial glutathione. Vitamin B6 also supports the production of the calming neurotransmitter GABA
  • Folic acid exists in two forms: 80% as L-5-MTHF (1-methylfolate) and 20% as folinic acid. L-5-MTHF is the active methylated form of folic acid needed to produce the body's main methyl donor, SAMe. Folic acid is involved in energy production and BH4 (an important cofactor in the body)
  • Vitamin B12 comes in three different forms: methylcobalamin to support methylation, hydroxocobalamin to balance the reactive forms of nitric oxide and hydrogen sulfide, and adenosylcobalamin to support mitochondrial health and energy production
  • Choline and betaine (TMG) support the recycling of homocysteine back to methionine via the BHMT enzyme. Choline also supports the synthesis of phosphatidylcholine, which uses the vast majority of the body's methylation reactions to produce
  • Magnesium is necessary for the production of the main methyl donor in the body, SAMe. Magnesium also supports the COMT enzyme, which can be a common culprit in methylation side effects
  • Zinc is an important cofactor for the MTR and BHMT enzymes, which helps them bind to homocysteine. Zinc also supports the reduction of NMDA stimulant activity
  • Molybdenum helps support sulfite metabolism, which is important if someone consumes too much methylation support
  • PQQ helps to reduce oxidative stress, which, if present, can slow down the methylation cycle. PQQ also protects BH4, which helps support the production of neurotransmitters and a healthy form of nitric oxide
