Thorne's Magnesium Bisgylcinate is NSF Certified for Sport®. Magnesium is essential for the health of the heart and blood vessels, brain, bones, skeletal muscles, lungs, and pancreas. As a cofactor for more than 600 enzymes, magnesium supports numerous mechanisms of action; for example, it relieves bronchial spasms, relaxes smooth and skeletal muscle, enhances insulin sensitivity, and is a cofactor in numerous enzymatic reactions necessary for energy production. Other magnesium mechanisms of action include modulating intracellular electrical activity and improving endothelial-dependent vasodilation, which support heart and lung health.* Thorne's Magnesium Bisglycinate is formulated for optimal absorbability. Its molecular structure also reduces the laxative effect typically seen in magnesium supplements. Lightly sweetened with Monk Fruit and a hint of citrus. Magnesium bisglycinate demonstrates better absorption than other magnesium supplements. A crossover study found that serum levels of magnesium over eight hours were highest for magnesium bisglycinate, followed by dimagnesium malate and magnesium oxide.


The glycine in this ingredient enhances its solubility and absorption by decreasing the pH of the intestines. The glycine that takes up space on the magnesium molecule also decreases the propensity of the magnesium to complex with plant-based phytates that would otherwise interfere with its absorption.
