An older dog has an increased need for certain nutrients that cannot usually be provided by even a balanced diet. Canine Geriatric Basics is enriched with several amino acids that support the health of an older dog. This ThorneVET formula also contains flavonoids, CoQ10, and other powerful antioxidants that slow down oxidative damage in an aging canine's body.
The aging process in dogs can also adversely affect the dog's brain, causing decreased neurotransmitter production, decreased synaptic density, and degeneration of neural membrane integrity. To support brain health, Canine Geriatric Basics increases the production of neurotransmitters and positively affects neural membranes.
The botanical ingredient blueberry has been added because of its beneficial effects on dogs' vision. And two adaptogenic botanicals of the adrenal glands, Eleutherococcus and Ashwagandha, have been added to help modulate the harmful physical and mental effects of stress.
An aging dog can have a variety of dog-specific health issues for which ThorneVET products such as Hepagen, Arthroplex, Gastriplex and Bio-Cardio may be indicated. In most cases, Canine Geriatric Basics can be combined with these products to obtain the maximum beneficial effect.
